A new lens for a new era

When The Asian Game launched in 2017, it was built on a simple belief: Asian football deserved to be covered with greater depth, care and understanding.

Not simply reported through results, rumours and reaction, but explored through the stories, people, cultures and forces that shape the game across the world’s largest and most diverse continent.

That belief has not changed.

But as The Asian Game approaches its tenth year, we felt it was time to ask whether our identity still reflected who we are – and who we want to become.

Today, we introduce a new visual identity, a renewed editorial focus and a clearer expression of our purpose:

Football through an Asian lens.

More than a tagline, it defines how we see the game.

Football in Asia cannot be fully understood through perspectives borrowed from elsewhere. It moves to different rhythms and exists within distinct cultural, political and economic realities. It is shaped by different histories, supporters, ambitions and traditions.

To cover it properly is not simply to explain what happened. It is to show why it matters, connect the moment to the wider story and understand the people and places behind the headline.

That is what The Asian Game exists to do.

WHY WE REBRANDED

Asian football has changed significantly since 2017. The men’s and women’s games have grown in ambition, reach and visibility. More Asian players and coaches are operating internationally, while club football across the continent is being reshaped.

The cycles leading to the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and 2030 FIFA World Cup will bring another defining period for the game.

As The Asian Game evolved alongside the game it covers, our visual identity no longer fully represented the platform we were becoming.

This rebrand is therefore more than a new logo. It is a reset – and, in many ways, a return to the principles that inspired The Asian Game in the first place: quality over quantity, depth over noise and journalism that helps audiences understand the game rather than simply keep up with it.

THE LENS

At the centre of the new identity is a symbol we call The Lens.

It is formed from six flowing ribbons brought together in a circular shape, with an open space at its centre.

The ribbons represent the many stories, perspectives and football cultures found across Asia. They also reference the AFC’s five regional zones – ASEAN, East, South, Central and West – alongside a sixth ribbon representing what connects them all.

Different regions. Different histories. One shared game.

The ribbons are interwoven, symbolising movement, exchange and the way football stories across Asia are connected.

At the centre is The Focus: an open space where those perspectives converge. It represents clarity, understanding and the role of journalism in helping readers see the bigger picture.

The Lens does not simply represent Asia. It represents our editorial process.

THE NEXT CHAPTER

The new identity uses a restrained palette of black, white and champagne gold, supported by strong typography, considered photography and generous space.

We wanted it to feel more like a publication than a conventional football website: less clutter, less noise and greater emphasis on storytelling, readability and editorial confidence.

The Asian Game is not trying to be the fastest or to cover everything. We want to cover what matters, and cover it properly.

Our ambition is to become the most trusted and distinctive editorial voice covering football in Asia: a platform readers make time for, contributors want to work with and audiences trust when they want to understand the game beyond the scoreline.

The Asian Game is not being reinvented. It is becoming the platform it was always intended to be.

A return to quality. A return to perspective. A return to the stories behind the story. A new lens for a new era.
